It's that time of year again. I just got back from watching the 7 on 7 against Burton and burton better hope their running game is much better than their passing game or they are screwed. I could say hey let's give a top 4 for the BDD but who really cares? Who's gonna win haysi or honaker this year?

My Pick: Haysi. It's hard to beat the red tigers at home. Just look at 03'. The loss of sperow, stanley, and lyall on the line is going to hurt us but there are plenty of boys that can step up. Compton will make a decent fill for Colley at quarterback and Ryan Jones is always guaranteed to knock some heads. With Counts back it's looking like the running game is gonna be a major factor. Cody Edwards is looking like TO out there. As for honaker I don't know exactly how many they lost. From what I can remember they haven't really lost many except for patrick whose game against us last year was amazing due to the fact a certain defensive end couldn't understand how to keep people from running OUTSIDE.

    Any thoughts?

Its about time someone came to life on this board!

I'm going to hold off on my pick of Haysi and Honaker for the time being...its early and right now I would probably give Honaker a slight edge due to the experience they have coming back on the line. Haysi will be much better than what most people on these boards seem to think and it will take a heck of a game from Honaker to beat them at Sandlick. Could it be OT this year?

i think that it will come down to haysi and honaker once more. it will be a challenge for haysi to come out on top in the battle of the tigers because honaker on;y really lost patrick and sutherland and haysi has a few more spots to fill after graduation starting QB and All-state DB in colley, all-region TE and DE in sperow, center and MLB in Lyall, and guard and MLB in stanley.

Lets face it, its not exactly going out on a limb to say that the BDD will come down to Haysi or Honaker...no disrespect meant to Hurley or Twin Valley.

I would not really say losing Stanley hurts that much because i never seen the kid do anything but maybe plug a whole by falling down. That to me was Haysi's biggest mess up. That kis should have never been playing MLB at all. They should have put his big arse on the line at DT and moved Sperrow to LB where he could use his speed and size to roam instead of at DE. I am sorry but a 275 lb kid should not be playing MLB or any LB spot for that matter, not like he is going to run anyone down or make a play outside of a 5 ft radius.

Yeah losing Stanley may have hurt Haysi more had he been used properly as a defensive tackle...However, him being gone at linebacker will actually help Haysi's defense in that area.

Blake was def. better than anyone else we could've had at MLB. Losing him on O-Line is what hurts the most though

It was one of the worse defensive coaching moves I can recall at Haysi...most all of the players were quietly saying the same thing. I think Blake would have excelled at the Nose Guard or DT position but Haysi should have been in a 5-3 with Nick Lyall manning the middle and Ryan Jones and Lance Compton at the outside backer positions. That way the 5 man front would have been solid by adding Stanley on the DL to plug up the holes and turn our DE's lose to be able to play outside contain and get after the QB on a pass rather than the 4 man front which forces them to engage and often play the run. It took away the pass rushing dominance that Sperow had displayed in previous years and basically forced him to play more like a tackle than an end. I thought based on talent that defense should have pretty much shut about everybody out...and shouldn't have given up more than a score against Honaker or Clintwood.

Got to agree totally with James, took the words right out of my mouth really. Got to have some speed to go with the size at lb and if Blake was the best for Defense at LB then Haysi was hurting more than anyone knew. Fact of the matter is when he went out at the HOnaker game the kids played better but with him at NT it would have put girth on the line and speed at LB to catch with the guys who get thru the line and Patrick got thru plenty and often. Horrid coaching move by putting him in that position. I do not care who you are at 275-280 you are not going to catch the slowest RB in the distirct if he breaks the line to the left or to the right and that is a fact.

Got to have speed and lateral quickness at LB no doubt about it...I'm all for a big guy playing MLB as long at they can get after it sideline to sideline...if you can't then blow the whistle and get me somebody else in here! Where is Rudy Ruettiger?
